How to Not Be Ripped Off By a Mechanic...
...I don't know either. Somehow I never trusted Mechanics/Contractors/Handymen for they just tell you whatever they want and charge you as much as they think you can afford. Today, I had 752 reasons to not trust a mechanic anymore. Ever. All that for a damn water pump and a couple of belts. Why does it have to be this way?

You got screwed. The total of the parts is probably not more that $100. Find an out of work mechanic next time to do it for you. $200 and a case of beer.
Dude just get a car that doesn't suck
YFA,
I wish it was that easy. at least the work done came with a 1 year warranty.
Asoom,
Do you know of a car that doesn't suck suitable for the budget of a broke college student?
i spent a fortune in midas once and they really sucked, everything they repaired broke down a few months later.
I noticed they charged a lot for service, so the best way is to find a litle Mexican shop that hires illegals they won't chanrge as much. I don't care abitu quality anymore
hareega (the racist),
little Mexicans?!
It's very hard to find the honest ones. When we first built our apartment in Amman we got ripped off and scammed by so many electricians, my dad flew had our electrician (for 20+ years now) brought here from Ramallah, paid for his time, food lodging for 3 days so he could setup the electricity of the apartment, then sent him back. It was cheaper than what some of the guys we tried to hire charged us.
We finally found an honest one after checking with relatives unfortunately he's so good everyone wants him, so he never has time to show up!
substitute (flew in) for (brought in) :)
