time for Jordanians to be creative

Every time I think of a cultural activity in Jordan, the image of over-weight, frowning men with thick mustaches taking over the front seats comes to mind. In Jordan's male dominant society, and in light of preserving الهيبة, we tend to restrict ourselves to in doors activities. Although some initiatives have done some good, such as Jara, a festival on a national scale is still missing. Something with a theme that draws from the Jordanian experience.
It is about time for Jordanians to come up with lasting traditions that pull together all people without any regard to religious or national origin affiliations and hold dcelebrations over a whole weekend. I am not proposing a "running of the camels festival," but something that could engage all Jordanians because Jordan Festival is more like an extended concert that only the richer could attend. I can't imagine a family of 5 paying ~200 JDs to go to Jerash and see كاظم الساهر in concert, if the family's income is more like ~300 a month.

I know.. We can have Mansaf Festival; where Girls wearing skirts spend a day crushing jameed with their bare feet.. and singing while guys singing too and play on their rababa's..

Or! dead sea festival, where all people go to dead sea wearing swimsuits and play with the mud for a week.. (including camping, fireworks, etc)

why not? :D

actually I already started writing the "Jameed Festival announcement" post.
The dead sea festival sounds great. you know, I will write another announcement for that too. I think I can come up with an amazing program of activities! :)

A festivals ok, but not if its governmentally funded/run. Half of it would be thanking his majesty for letting them all live in Jordan.

khaled, that's part of the problem. I was able to only watch a few minutes of the Kingdom's 2 hours long main throne celebrations in Amman's stadium last week. it wasn't only an embarrassment, it was really laughable.
