President Obama signed into law a bill that outlaws the use of flavorings in tobacco among other things. This wording, flavoring, brought to mind the creativity in Hookah tobacco's (معسّل) flavors available these days. It's the flavoring that made hookahs so popular. If the tobacco was limited to plain or just تمباك, people wouldn't have taken to smoking it almost daily. Sign this petition asking for an exemption from the new rules. I am sure Obama would agree given that he smokes hookah daily on the White House's balcony.
Update: After reading the text of the Act, it seems that Hookah tobacco isn't targeted. The Act focuses on cigarettes and cigarillos that are usually marketed to teenagers with fruit flavors, the labeling of cigarettes as light/ultralight, and a lot about actually marketing near schools and in sports.

Really? Interesting. Well in a lot of places they ban smoking in places where food is served. The hippest classiest non-ghetto hookah place around my area closed down as a result of that law being implemented. It was so sad :(

asoom, actually in CA it is OK as long as it's outdoors. So, middle eastern restaurants put up heaters and and makes for a great setting. But, no smoking at all inside.

yea but in certain places you just can't really sit outside comfortably like if it's a downtown area or a really cramped urban type setting.
I've been to a few hookah places in the SOCal area within this year. I guess you're right cause now that I think about it the only one that was a real restaurant we sat outside in heated tents....still though that doesn't work everywhere

if Obama tries to outlaw hookah, he'll have to regulate the entire tobbacco industry. you can't just make one type of tabbacco product banned and still let another be sold on the market. i smoke everyday at my god friend's business. if Obama gets this "bill" passed, he going to shut down businessesthat started from the ground up. Hundereds of thousands of dollars in the South Bay Area alone spent on their businesses, renovating of buildings and supplies to keep their porperties clean and customer friendly.
I kno sommiddle easterners dont like him, if he does this; none of us will.
and please believe, if it does ge outlawed, we'll still do it everyday like we have been for Centuries.
