Since the very beginning of my days on fb and blogging, I've had this feeling that Jordanians on Social Networking portals, be it fb, twitter, or blogs, belonged to the mid-high or high class of Jordan's society. The make up of Jordanians on such social networks, therefore, is not a true representation of Jordan as a whole.
Facebook might portray a more comprehensive picture, however, it remains captive to the younger age group, such as high school and university students. Also, given the low rate of Internet penetration and ownership of Internet-connected computers in Jordanian households, the presence of Jordanians on Social Networking sites remains reserved to those financially able to own a computer, maintain an Internet connection, and have the "network effect" to dynamize their presence and contributions.
I know the above is not a finished thought or that it shows actual data. But, I thought of writing it down here and share.
Any thoughts?
8 ►I charge thee, speak!:
See the pyramid of human needs and necessities (Maslow's Hierarchy of Human Needs) blogging is implicitly shown in the top of the pyramid!
And u can not climb up to the top without passing through all of the stages on that pyramid! Apparently, a large section of our society is still struggling with the first two levels!
Those who don't, still have another pump on the road! Self esteem! Self esteem is an issue in Jordan!
I can not say that all of those who blog has reached the top! But it is a good indication that they are almost there!
Yes, the same was true a decade ago in the US - the people who had a presence on the Internet ("netizens") were by definition NOT representative of the population as a whole. Overwhelmingly white, male, middle/upperclass, educated. Now, not so much.
very true , its not only financially overwhelming to the majority of Jordanians ,its also a culture that's missing ,that being that social networking websites,fb,blogs or twitter can be and are in fact useful and of great importance these days ,that's not profound at all even in the minds of the upper middle class or high class young people in Jordan ,its either to hook up with guys/girls or to pass time on stupid stuff ,that's all .
like now twitter is overtaking right ?ppl still didn't catch up with the blog trend ,lots of my friends personally (who are able to be on blogs lets say,who has things to say and can put it in words) still debates if starting a blog is any good at all! talk about twitter ,I can't keep up with twitter ,being unemployed now,I won't be goin online from my phone, lots of ppl heard of twitter cuz The queen is on it,but they don't even know how it looks like !or what is it or how it works.
thats true to a certain point.
I dont expect someone who doesnt have internet connection at home to blog or maybe tweet. but i can tell they would go to internet cafe's maybe to log into their facebook or into forums (منتديات) which is another kind of blogging.
I don't know man... all my cousins and the entire girya is on facebook. At my uncle's house they had a computer with internet (that slow dialup you pre-pay for) before they had satellite channels and actual toilets.
Technology in the girya advances in a different order, with internet (as crappy as it is) being at the forefront. That's my observation.
It's obvious that you have this feeling,,, and I'm saying that because the first time I saw your blog -it was in rmdan-, the last post was 'so easy, a 7afartali can do it'
and to be honest, I found that very offensive, though I don't know what's your difinition of 7afartali but I consider myself one of them ,
either you don't care for what we think or feel about that ,,, or you are pritty sure that no 7afartali will read it.
